Geneva softball defeats NBCA, also plays in Seguin tourney

The Geneva School of Boerne softball team won its first game of the year after they defeated New Braunfels Christian Academy earlier this week, 14-2.

Prior to that, the Eagles play in the Seguin tournament. They are 1-6 overall.

Vs. NBCA

The Eagles knocked out 25 hits in the game and scored in 5 of 7 innings.

Geneva coach Tim Millage said it was a great bounce-back effort after a tough outing at Seguin where they didn’t win a game.

“This was a tremendous offensive effort. Seven players had 2 or more hits,” he said. “After a tough weekend at the Seguin Tournament, this was a perfect opportunity for us to gain much needed momentum and confidence prior to beginning district play.”

Madeline Egbert was the winning pitcher and improved her record to 1-1.

Emily Coultress finished 5 for 6 at the plate with a double and 2 RBI, Reese Smith went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 runs scored, Maya Thomson was 4 for 4 with 2 RBI and Lily Flora batted 3 for 5 with a double and 2 RBI.

Seguin tourney

Geneva was entered in the Seguin tourney last weekend and played five games.

For at least part of the tourney, Geneva was without nine players because of basketball and soccer playoffs. Seven of the nine were starters last year but Coach Timothy Millage said it was “a great opportunity for our other players to get significant playing experience.”

The Eagles opened with a 13-2 loss to Luling and were led at the plate by Maya Thomson who finished 2 for 2 with 2 singles and 2 RBI.

Emily Coultress pitched for the Eagles. Geneva lost to Edinburg, 18-0, and was held without a hit.

Emily Coultress pitched in the game. On the second day, Geneva lost to Silsbee, 20-1, and then fell to Somerset, 20-3.

On the final day, the Eagles lost to Brownsville, 7-3, to close out the tourney.

Madeline Egbert led the team at the plate and finished with a single, double and triple after she went 3 for 3 and picked up 2 RBI.

Egbert also tossed in the game. Before the tourney, the Eagles lost to San Antonio Christian, 21-2, to open their season.
