Champion golfers at 5A state preview tourney

The Boerne Champion boys golf team played in the 5A boys state preview in Georgetown last weekend at the Sun City Legacy Hills Golf Course where they went up against some of the best 5A squads in the state.

Champion held its own and finished fourth overall with a two-day score of 618 (316,302) in the field of 20 teams.

Walnut Grove was first at 594 (295,299), Lake Creek came in second at 599 (298,301) and Smithson Valley was third with a 612 (301,311).

Phoenix Guerra led the team with a 148 with rounds of 76 and 72 for third overall, Tristan Frantz shot a 153 with rounds of 77 and 76 for ninth, Zachary Franz carded a 155 with rounds of 77 and 78 for 19th, Chase Knight posted a score of 162 with rounds of 86 and 76 for 45th place and Aidan Taylor scored a 171 with rounds of 87 and 84 for 84th in the field of 112.

Also for Champion, Dylan Buckley played as an individual medalist and carded a 167 with rounds of 81 and 86 for 69th place.
