The Boerne High boys soccer team wrapped up this year’s district title outright with a win Tuesday at Bandera — their sixth district crown in a row — while the Lady Greyhounds defeated the Lady Bulldogs Monday at Charger Field and pulled into a three-way tie for first.
There are two matches left in district heading into Friday.
After playing Canyon Lake Friday, the Boerne teams won’t play again until after spring break when they close out the regular season against Wimberley, March 19.
Varsity Boys
A banged up Boerne team claimed their sixth straight league title with a 3-2 win over the Bulldogs Tuesday.
Boerne improves to 15-0 overall and 8-0 in district.
The Greyhounds were down five starters vs. the Bulldogs but still managed Tuesday’s victory to take their district win streak to 45.
Coach Michael Strong gave credit to the Bulldogs for playing them tough.
“They played us the best they’ve ever played us,” he said.
Elian Arreola finished with 2 goals in the match, while Hudson Vickery had one goal.
Justin Bain recorded 2 assists and Liam Griffiths had the other assist.
Varsity Girls
Boerne High hosted the Lady Bulldogs Monday and rolled to an 11-2 win.
After Tuesday’s matches, the Lady Greyhounds are 5-1-2 and tied with Davenport and Wimberley, who are both at 5-1-2 in 26-4A.
Friday’s opponent, Canyon Lake, is breathing down everybody’s neck and is right behind the top three at 4-3.
Boerne is 15-1-3 overall and the 11 goals they scored Monday is the most tallied this year in one match.
Bella Pettet led the team with a hat trick after she scored 3 goals, Kailey Stringfellow added 2 goals, while Mahaley Merkens, Sadie Parker, Sophia Namvar, Avery Ukeiley, Mia Cohoon and Sophia Harper all netted 1 goal apiece.
Namvar and Merkens tallied 2 assists each, while Ukeiley and Stringfellow both had 1 assist.
