Seguin and Champion battled through seven ties or lead changes before the Matadors softball team scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Chargers, 7-6.

Champion slips to 8-5-1 overall and 4-2 in 26-5A. It has three games this week and hosts Tivy on Tuesday, visits Buda Johnson Friday to close out the first round and begins the second round on Saturday at NB Canyon.

Champion put together a two-out rally in the top of the eighth to take the lead, but again it didn’t hold. Lily Ritchie doubled and then stole third. From there, Kassidy Kureska singled to score Ritchie and the Chargers were up 6-5 when the game went to the bottom half of the frame.
