The Boerne High baseball team opened district play Tuesday at Bandera with a 12-0 win over the Bulldogs and in the process gave head coach Geoff Curtin’s his 100th career win.
Curtin is in his first year leading the Greyhounds and has the team sitting at 9-3 overall and 1-0 in district.
Boerne is playing in the San Marcos tournament this weekend and faced former Greyhound coach Bill Merrell Friday. Merrell is helping to coach at Norman, Oklahoma, where his son is the head coach.
The Greyhounds were leading 2-0 on Tuesday and then scored 8 runs in the fourth to blow it open. BHS added 2 more runs in the fifth and when Bandera couldn’t answer, the mercy rule kicked in.
In that fourth frame, Boerne sent 12 batters to the plate and recorded a home run, a triple, 3 doubles, 3 singles and a walk.
Hudson McNew had the dinger and drove in 2 runs, Walker Hill tripled, singled and scored a run, while Dylan Perez and Grant Tamplet knocked out 2 doubles each.
Both Perez and Tamplet also picked up 2 RBI and scored one run each.
Reese House singled, drove in a run and scored twice, Jace Preston hit a single, picked up an RBI and scored, Drew Coronado plated a run, Hutson Hendrix hit 2 singles, scored 2 runs and picked up an RBI, while Brooks Perez collected 2 RBI, singled and scored once.
Campbell Jackson and Jackson Grimes combined for the shutout on the mound and struck out 4 batters each.
Jackson went 3 innings and gave up 2 hits and no walks, while Grimes went 2 frames and didn’t give up a hit and just one walk.
