The Boerne Champion soccer squads continued district action last Friday against Pieper, with the girls on the road and the boys at home against the Warriors.

Both the Champion boys and girls suffered close losses to Pieper as they head down the stretch run of district play.

Champion plays Smithson Valley this week, with the girls at home Tuesday and the boys at Rangers Stadium. After that, Seguin is on the schedule with the Champion girls at Matador Stadium and the boys at home.

Varsity Boys

Pieper completed the season sweep of the Champion boys with a 2-1 win Friday at Charger Field.

The Warriors are legit and have a perfect district record at 12-0 and are No. 12 in the 5A MaxPreps rankings.

Champion slips to 6-3-3 in district and 11-3-3 overall.

Chargers coach Clifton Tierney said if they win their last two, they should get second place, but added that one loss in their final two may keep them out of the playoffs, that’s how tight it is in the district standings.

Liam Willis recorded the team’s only goal last Friday and Cooper Sotello had the assist.

Varsity Girls

The Pieper girls edged the Lady Chargers 3-2 and are the first team in the district, other than New Braunfels Canyon, to defeat Champion in 26-5A.

The Lady Chargers are 9-3 in district and 10-8 overall. They have already clinched a playoff spot and are playing for seeding at this point. Champion slipped from second to third in district with Friday’s loss.

The Lady Chargers have dropped two of their last three in district.

Jayme Harrell and Carsyn Bradley both tallied goals in last Friday’s match.
