The Boerne High varsity soccer teams were in action last Friday against Davenport and one Greyhound squad rolled to an easy win, while the other battled but didn’t win or lose.
BHS was scheduled to play Bandera early this week and then play Canyon Lake Friday. The BHS boys are home Friday at Champion to host the Hawks and the girls are at Canyon Lake.
After that, the teams in the district are off for spring break and won’t play again until the week of March 18 to close out the regular season before starting playoffs.
Varsity Girls
There was plenty of action but no scoring in Friday’s match at Davenport after the Lady Greyhounds and the Lady Wolves played to a 0-0 tie.
Davenport won their firstround meeting, so they have the tiebreaker in the event they are tied when the regular season ends.
Boerne is 4-1-2 in district and 14-1-3 overall. The Lady Hounds have clinched a playoff spot with three left, it’s just a matter of seeding at this point.
BHS coach Jeremy Shannon said he would have preferred a victory but is glad they didn’t lose.
“A win would have been better, but a tie is not bad either,” he said. “We just couldn’t afford a loss.”
Varsity Boys
Boerne recorded its biggest victory in district play so far with a 7-0 win over Davenport.
Boerne has basically wrapped up the district title and owns all of the tiebreakers against the other teams in 26-4A at this point but wants to win it outright.
The BHS boys are a bit short-handed right now because of injuries but they still rolled to seven goals last Friday at Charger Field.
Felix Theiss and Elian Arreola recorded 2 assists each, while Gabe Sallick, Liam Griffiths and Caleb Benchoff all tallied single goals. Benchoff’s goal came off a keeper rebound.
Brett Hettie didn’t score but recorded 4 assists, while Brady Bowen had the other 2 assists.
The Boerne boys are still unbeaten this year at 14-0 overall and 7-0 in district. Their district win streak is now at 44 straight.
