Both the Boerne Champion varsity soccer teams tangled with Tivy Tuesday night and the Chargers were able to defeat the Antlers in both matches.
The Lady Chargers blanked the Lady Antlers 4-0 and the boys topped Tivy, 4-2.
The Chargers were in action Friday against Pieper. The girls were on the road and the boys were at home.
Varsity Girls
The Lady Chargers got back to their winning ways after losing to New Braunfels Canyon in their previous match.
Tuesday’s 4-0 win in Boerne completes the season sweep of the Lady Antlers and was by a much larger margin than in their first meeting. Champion took Tivy, 1-0, on the road, Feb. 2.
The Lady Chargers improve to 9-2 in district and are 10-7 overall. They have already clinched a playoff spot with three left going into Friday, it’s just a matter of seeding.
Ava Slay tallied two goals Tuesday, while Carsyn Bradley and Taylor Burk knocked in one goal each.
Layla Sturgeon recorded two assists and Lily Alejo had one helper.
Varsity Boys
The Champion boys also complete the season sweep of the Antlers after they won their first-round meeting as well after that match was started, paused and then restarted the next day.
Champion is 11-2-3 overall and 6-2-3 in district with three left on the schedule is 26-5A. Coach Clifton Tierney said they are still fighting for a playoff spot.
The Chargers moved the ball around well Tuesday and attacked from different positions as four different players scored in the match.
Liam Willis, Brogan Dempsey, Nathan Bell and Bentley McCool all tallied goals.
Willis, Dempsey and Lucca Talos all finished with assists.
