Boerne ISD selects Lee as transportation director

BOERNE — The Boerne Independent School District has named Melanie Lee as its new director of transportation. Lee’s appointment was approved by the BISD board of trustees at their Feb. 26 meeting.

Lee joins Boerne ISD after spending the past two years in the Venus ISD, where she led the transportation department with a fleet of 60 vehicles, supervised more than 70 employees and was responsible for transporting 1,700 students daily on 34 routes. For more than 11 years, Lee served Dallas County Schools as assistant transportation supervisor, where she helped oversee more than 300 campuses while always continuing to drive bus routes.

Lee began her transportation career as a school bus driver in the Lancaster ISD before she became a transportation supervisor and served schools in Dallas ISD, where she supervised a large fleet of school buses and route drivers.

In 2005, she completed her bachelor’s degree and began teaching while working on a master’s degree in mathematics education. During her teaching career in Dallas ISD, Lee obtained her librarian certification and completed a school leadership program with school principal certification.

She spent several years as an elementary teacher, librarian, state and college board test coordinator, and administrative principal intern.
