Geneva girls hoops wins fourth straight regional title

The Geneva School of Boerne girls basketball team clinched their fourth regional title in a row after the Lady Eagles defeated Legacy Prep Christian Academy, 61-49, Saturday to advantage to the TAPPS 4A state tournament.

Geneva will play Bay Area Christian from League City Thursday on Leap Day at 4 p.m.

Thursday’s winner advances to the championship game Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Maegan Riebel was hitting from the outside and drained 4 of 9 3-pointers on her way to 24 points. Riebel also went 4 for 8 from 2-point range and finished 4 for 5 at the free-throw line to get her 24 points.

Kyra Petty added 13 points and did most of her damage from 2-point range after she was 5 for 9 to go with a 3-pointer.

Bethany DeLuna netted 7 and had a 3, Madeline Egbert scored 4, while Suzie Nilsson and Morgan Howard both dropped in 3s for 3 points as Geneva knocked down 8 from long range.

Hailey Kirchner added 3 points, while Grace Detterick and Sopris Oglesby both chipped in with 2.

Petty led the team on the boards with 8 rebounds, while she, Riebel and DeLuna all dished out 5 assists. Petty also came up with 5 steals and Riebel recorded 4 steals.
