Chargers, Cats and Hound hardballers win Tuesday

The baseball teams from Champion, Boerne High and Comfort hit the diamond Tuesday and all three won their non-district contest.

The Cats, Greyhounds and Chargers were involved in tournaments this weekend.

Boerne High

The Hounds hosted East Central Monday and won 11-1 in six innings.

It was 2-1 until the fourth when Boerne blew the game open with six runs and the Hounds tallied its six runs with two outs.

Dylan Perez started things off with a solo home run. The next six batters reached with two walks, an error and three singles.

The Hornets finally retired the side but not before Boerne claimed an 8-1 lead.

BHS added a single run in the fifth and two more in the bottom of the sixth to kick in the mercy rule.

Perez homered and singled, scored 3 runs and picked up an RBI. Grant Tamplet had 3 singles and drove in a run, Walker Hill hit 2 singles and scored twice, while Jace Preston and Hudson McNew both scored 2 runs.

Jackson Grimes, Perez, Tanner Tuschinski and Tamplet all threw in the game, with Perez earning the win. Grimes finished with 4 strikeouts in 2 innings of work.

Champion

The Chargers claimed a 10-2 win over Steele and scored its 10 runs from the third through the sixth frames.

It was scoreless through the second before Steele scratched for a run and the 1-0 lead but the Chargers answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the inning for the 2-1 advantage.

Steele tied it in the top of the fourth but Champion again fired back with 2 runs in the fourth for the 4-2 edge.

It was all Chargers after that as they plated 4 in the fifth and 2 more in the sixth.

Champion finished with 11 hits and had four players with 2 hits each after Jordan Ballin, Evan Kuhl, Sam Miller andAidan Smith finished with 2 knocks.

One of Smith’s hits was a triple, while Greg Whitehead also singled.

Cam Logan, Owen Kuhl and Ballin scored 2 runs each, while Ballin, Miller and Owen Kuhl drove in 2 runs each.

Aidan Smith went 4 innings and Sawyer Smith threw 3 frames and picked up the win. Aidan Smith gave up 2 earned runs and fanned 4, while Sawyer Smith yielded just 1 hit and struck out 5.

Comfort

Comfort won its baseball opener by defeating Hamilton on Monday, 13-6, to start the year at 1-0.

The Bobcats scored a lot of its runs early with 3 in the first, another in the second and 5 more in the third. Comfort closed it out with another 4 runs in the sixth, while Hamilton scored 3 in the third and 2 in the seventh.

Comfort finished with 8 hits and Mason West had 3 of them after he legged out 2 singles and an insidethe- park home run in the second.

West also scored 3 runs and drove in 3 runs, while Luke Bohnert tripled and singled and Tucker Rust, Caleb Van Geffen and Bohnert all finished with 1 hit.

Rust went 2.1 innings on the hill, while Zach Jones tossed the final 4.2 frames and picked up the win.

Rust gave up 4 hits, 3 runs and had 4 Ks, while Jones yielded 3 hits, 3 runs and fanned 6.
