Area softball teams in action

The softball teams from BHS, Champion and Comfort were in action Tuesday as they continue non-district play. All three are involved in tournaments this week.

Boerne Champion

Champion made short work of Providence after the Lady Chargers defeated the Provettes, 15-0, in just 4 innings Tuesday in Boerne.

Champion scored 4 runs in the first, 3 in the second, 7 in the third and another in the 4th to kick in the mercy rule behind 11 hits.

Seven of their 11 hits went for extra bases after Ryleigh LaRue went yard in the fourth to end the game, while Abby Brehmer, Mylie Parker and Torin Tucker all legged out triples and Alison Kory, Dakota Salazar and Lillian Ritchie all banged out doubles.

Salazar and Brehmer both added singles to their hits, while Parker added 2 more singles.

Salazar, Ritchie and Parker all scored 3 runs, while Parker picked up 4 RBI and Brehmer collected 3 RBI.

Parker went all four innings and only needed 50 pitches to get the win. She gave up 3 hits, no runs or walks, while striking out 5.

Boerne High

The Boerne girls were on the road Tuesday at Steele and the two teams combined for 30 hits and 32 runs before the Lady Greyhounds prevailed, 17-15.

Both teams had big innings in the fourth after Boerne scored 6 runs and Steele answered with 5 runs to give the Lady Hounds an 8-7 lead.

BHS tallied 2 more in the fifth but Steele followed that with 7 runs in the bottom half of the frame for the 14-10 advantage.

However, the fun was just starting for the Lady Hounds after they had their biggest inning of the night with 7 runs in the sixth for the 17-14 lead. Breanna Krause had an inside-the-park homer and drove in 3 runs in that frame.

Steele tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh but only managed one run.

Krause homered and singled, drove in 5 runs, and scored twice. Taylor Wilson doubled and hit 3 singles, picked up 4 RBI and scored 3 runs, while Maddie Vasquez doubled and hit 2 singles, pushed in 3 runs and scored 4 times.

Riley Partin hit 2 singles and collected 2 RBI, Ryleigh Hastings scored twice and Brooklyn Thomason plated 2 runs.

Jesseanna Aguirre went 4.2 innings and picked up the win from the circle after she gave up 6 earned runs.

Wilson went the final 2.1 frames and earned the save after she yielded 6 hits and 8 runs.

Comfort

Comfort was on the road Tuesday and dropped a 15-0 contest to Johnson City.

The Deer were held without a hit in Tuesday’s game and slipped to 1-6 overall.

Comfort won its opener on Feb. 13 over Center Point, 21-14 and has dropped six straight.

They were in the Ingram tournament and lost to Harper, Bandera, Kerrville Tivy, Midland Christian and El Dorado.

They were at Randolph Friday.
