The Geneva School of Boerne girls cruised to the regional round of the playoffs after the Eagles defeated Corpus Christi John Paul II Tuesday in Boerne.
Geneva crushed the Centurions, 67-20, and bumped its record to 27-4 overall.
The Eagles face Legacy Prep Christian Academy Saturday in the regional round, with the winner headed to the state tournament.
Geneva raced out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter and didn’t allow a CC JP II point until the Centurions scored with 1:38 left to finally get on the board. The first quarter ended with the Eagles leading 19-4.
The Centurions had a good start to the second and tallied the first round points and the Geneva lead was trimmed to 19-8 but the Eagles outscored the Corpus Christi school, 13-1, to end the quarter and took a 32-9 lead into halftime.
Geneva was just getting warmed up and had its best quarter of the game in the third with 24 points after they won the period, 24-2, to open up a 56-11 advantage.
The Eagles closed it out by taking the final stanza, 11-9.
Kyra Petty led all scorers with 27 points and went 11 for 18 from the field for 61 percent. Petty was 3 for 6 from the 3-point line and went 8 for 12 from 2-point range.
Maegan Riebel, who hit 1,500 career points, finished with 15, Madeline Egbert and Hailey Kirchner both netted 6, Suzie Nilsson scored 5, Hartlee Menn added 4, while Lindsay Lee and Bethany DeLuna chipped in with 2 points each.
Riebel and Petty were both big on the boards after Riebel pulled down 14 rebounds and Petty hauled in 12. Riebel and Petty also came up with 4 steals apiece and Lee recorded 5 steals.
Geneva vs. Antonian
The Geneva girls basketball took onAntonian in a warm-up game in a battle of No. 1 ranked TAPPS teams.
The 6AApaches defeated the 4A Eagles, 67-48. Both are ranked No. 1 in the state in their respective divisions as they began the postseason.
