Hill Country Family Services has partnered with the Kendall County Sherriff’s Office and the Kendall County Jail to serve inmates and families who find themselves in crisis because of their incarceration.

Through a partnership with the UTSA School of Social Work, HCFS has placed a masters social work practicum student with nurse Nancy McGilvray at the Kendall County Jail to identify levels of inmate stress, information in a press release stated.

“Based on inmate participation, we identify immediate resources for families who were left behind to help meet basic needs,” the HCFS information stated. “In addition, we help families plan for the time their loved one will be incarnated. Financial literacy, immediate access to food and financial assistance and appointments with a licensed clinical social worker are just a few ways we can reduce stress and increase quality of life for both inmates and their families.”

The goal of the partnership is to provide community wrap around services for inmates and their families, help reduce stress, increase access to local resources and tracking to see if our collective impacts reduce recidivism, the information stated.
