Boerne school, council races draw challengers
Boerne City Council and Boerne ISD will have a full slate of candidates for voters in the May 5 election.

Boerne City Council and Boerne ISD will have a full slate of candidates for voters in the May 5 election.

All three Boerne ISD positions will feature contested races, but with only one incumbent vying to return. All three Boerne City Council incumbents also will face challengers.

In Fair Oaks Ranch, Greg Maxton and Place 1 Councilwoman Emily Stroup drew no opposition. An election will still be held, however, as Fair Oaks Ranch voters have two propositions to weigh in on: To reauthorize local sales and use tax to fund the city’s street maintenance program; and for the issuance of $16 million in general obligation bonds for road projects.

Boerne District 1 City Councilman Ty Wolosin faces a run by Jeremy Pratt for his seat on council. Incumbent Councilman Quinten Scott likewise drew a challenger, Daniel Weis, for his District 3 spot on council.

District 5 Councilman Joseph Macaluso saw opponent Nick Nuth file late in the week, to fill out the city’s three-race ballot. All City Council seats are two-year terms.

In the Boerne ISD, just one of three incumbents, Board President Carlin Friar, filed for re-election. He is being opposed for the Place 1 trustee position by challengers Mike Stewart and Candace Affeldt.

In Place 2, Trustee Joe Tidwell did not seek re-election to the Place 2 seat. Two candidates – residents Dallas Pipes and Noah Oviedo — are vying to replace him.

The final school board seat, Place 3, is held by Trustee Jessica Davila. Like Tidwell, Davila also did not file for re-election. Two candidates for the Place 3 seat have emerged: Courtney Darter- Bruce and Thomas Nordstrand.

The deadline for a candidate to withdraw their name from the ballot for the election is 5 p.m. Feb. 23. The final day to register to vote for the general election is April 4.

Early voting runs April 22-30, while Election Day is May 5.
