Veterans Memorial wrapped up the District 26-5A boys basketball title with a convincing win over Boerne Champion Tuesday at Charger Gym.

Champion ends the regular season at 12-2 in district and 29-5 overall. They’ll open the playoffs Tuesday vs. Cedar Park at Buda Johnson, 6 p.m. The Chargers only two losses in district came to the Patriots.

Charlie Georgelos tallied Champion’s final four points of the second with a free throw and a 3-pointer, while the Patriots scored the final three points of the period for the 30-12 halftime lead after they won the stanza, 15-8.

Once the third quarter started, Georgelos knocked down a pair of free throws to start the second half, but Veterans Memorial answered with a 14-0 run to blow it open.

The Patriots hit four straight 3s in a span of two minutes and it was a 30-point lead at 44-14. Veterans Memorial sank one more 3 for their fifth in the quarter and outscored the Chargers in the stanza, 19-4, to hold a 49-16 advantage going into the final period.

Adamek started removing starters but not before Georgelos had a 3-point play to open the fourth quarter. With a big lead, Veterans Memorial ran a stall and burned clock to close it out. The Pats only scored 5 points in the quarter, while the Chargers tallied 13 points of their 29 points in the final period.

Georgelos led Champion with 11 points, Kristian Herrera added 5, Alex Ross, Logan Scott, Tre Hudspeth, Quinn Grable, Burdick and Briggs Jones all tallied 2 points, while Joshua Marquez hit a free throw.
