Rick Davis
February 14, 1950 – March 16, 2022
Rick “Coach” Davis of Boerne, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, from complications of Pulmonary Fibrosis. He was born in Denver, Colorado, on February 14, 1950, to Ardith Elaine Decker Davis and Robert Edwin Davis.
Rick is survived by his wife, Kathryn; his son, Cody Davis; step-children Shelly Gonzales, Kelly Kyle and John Clayton Kyle; 11 fantastic grandchildren; and three beautiful great-grandchildren.
Rick attended high school in Colorado, joined the U.S. Air Force and served as a medic in the hyperbaric treatment center in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated from Southwest Texas University in San Marcos, Texas, and began his teaching and coaching career. In 1992, he began working at Boerne High School where he met Kathryn Kyle. They were married on June 5, 1999. He retired from education in Boerne ISD in 2012 with 32 years of service.
As a couple, Rick and Kathryn enjoyed traveling in their RV to various states, camping with special friends, their dogs, children and grandchildren.
Teaching and coaching and the love of his students were paramount in his life. He related to young people everywhere and made an impact on so many. Also, Rick loved music and was talented enough to play his harmonica with many noted bands in the Hill Country, Austin and Fredericksburg and anywhere he could make music. He loved chili cooking with many wonderful friends and brought home numerous first-place trophies that have a special place in his home.
Coach Davis was a gregarious, outgoing personality who never met a stranger. He loved his friends, playing dominos and was the life of the party, talking more than any of us. He made good use of his retirement taking up golf with friends and becoming an accomplished artist with watercolors. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his son, Cody. He was admired and loved by many; we will miss him very much.
