The Boerne High boys basketball team wrapped up its seventh district title in a row and their 12th in the last 15 seasons with Friday’s 54-40 victory over Davenport.
BHS is 11-0 in league play and closed out the regular season Tuesday at Bandera. The Greyhounds improved to 28-5 overall and will start the playoffs next week.
It was a slow start for both teams and knotted up at 2-2 after one quarter. The Greyhounds heated up in the second and doubled up the Wolves, 16-8, for the 18-10 halftime lead.
BHS was just warming up and came out in the third quarter and tallied 23 to better what they did in the first two periods.
Davenport started to get its offense going as well and knocked in 19 to give Boerne the 41-29 advantage.
The Hounds went to the free-throw line a lot in the fourth quarter and went 7 for 7 to ice the game. They outscored the Wolves in the final period, 13-11.
Boerne was good at the line the entire game and finished 13 for 14 in its foul shooting.
Luke Fox scored 10 points and went 8 for 8 at the line, including a 6 for 6 showing in the fourth quarter.
Casen Hoegemeyer led the team with 13 points, Nic Hernandez knocked down three 3s and three free throws for 12 points, Hank Hendrix scored 8, Sam Holland added 7 points, all in the third quarter, while Jaxon Baize and Hutson Hendrix both netted 2.
As mentioned, Boerne has won seven district titles in a row and their 12th in the last 15 seasons. Of Boerne’s 12 district titles, two have been as co-champs with Fredericksburg, who has won the other three district titles outright that Boerne didn’t win. … Boerne’s district win streak is now 48 after Friday. … In Boerne’s 49-27 victory over Fredericksburg last Tuesday, Casen Hoegemeyer led the team with 21 points and scored 14 in the fourth quarter. Sam Holland added 15 points and hit three 3s, while Hank Hendrix scored 9 as the three combined for 45 of their 56 points.
