Champion hosted Kerrville Tivy on Tuesday for a girls district soccer match and the Lady Chargers scored a late goal to tie the Lady Antlers and avoid the loss.

Champion was trailing 1-0 but scored with less than a minute left to knot it up at 1-1, which is where it stayed.

Champion is 11-3-1 in 26-5A and 14-3-3 overall. The Lady Chargers team, which has already wrapped up second place in the district, closes out the regular season Friday at Buda Johnson before opening the playoffs.

Kerrville Tivy scored in the first 10 minutes of the match and held the 1-0 lead until late. The Chargers’ Addison Huber sent a through ball over the top of the defense and Lorenna Garza chased it down, battled a few Kerrville defenders and knocked it in to tie it in the 39th minute.

The Antlers mounted one last attack and got off a shot but didn’t connect and 1-1 is where it stayed.

Champion outshot Tivy, 20-4, including 12-1 shots on goal and had more corners than the Antlers, 7-2.
