Champion swimmers/divers sweep district titles

The Champion swim and dive team dominated at their recent District 28-5A meet, running away with first place on the boys and girls side.

The Lady Chargers scored 262 points and the Champion boys tallied 246 points. Southwest, Southwest Legacy and Medina Valley were in the district as well.

There were 24 events at the district meet — 12 boys and 12 girls — and the Chargers were first in 23 of those events.

Champion advances to the regional meet scheduled for this weekend, also at the Southwest Aquatics Center.

Coach Scott Slay was named Coach of the Year at the meet on the boys and girls side, while Kate Canales and Bexon Harrison were named the Athletes of the Meet.

RESULTS (TOP 8)

The 200-medley relay of Kate Deykin, Kate Canales, Cameron Kellogg and Cora Skoog was 1st in 1:53, while the boys team of Will Harrison, Jake Canales, Bexon Harrison and William Tolar was also 1st in 1:42.

In the 200 free, Madi Neuman was 1st in 2:10, Addison Homann came in 3rd in 2:13, Breanna Hempton placed 4th in 2:22 and Ana Metz took 5th in 2:24.

In the boys 200 free, Carson Muenchow clocked in at 1:55 for 1st, Aaron Mendoza was 2nd in 2:03 and Nash Belson came in 4th in 2:09.

Cameron Kellogg won the girls 200 IM in 2:13.20, Kate Deykin was 2nd in 2:15, Victoria Adame came in 4th in 3:05 and Rebecca Conrad was 6th at 3:14.

EJ Altermatt won the boys 200 IM with a time of 2:19, Sarp Peterson was 2nd in 2:33 and Luke Bove came in 3rd at 2:34.

In the girls 50 free, Cora Skoog topped in the field in 25.21, while Cayden Van Dyne and Brooklynn Hankins went 2-3 in times of 27.83 and 30.85.

The boys team also took the top 3 spots in the 50 free after Bexon Harrison, William Tolar and Jake Canales clocked in at 21.55, 22.63 and 23.55, while Ethan Roecker was 5th in 23.81.

In diving, Jada Green took 1st with 403.45 points and Emma Haines was 2nd with 345.60 points on the girls side, while Colin Breuer won the boys district title with 475.55 points.

Kate Canales, Audrey Olivo, Victoria Sperber and Addison Homann were 1-23-4 in the girls 100 butterfly with times of 58.70, 1:02, 1:07 and 1:10.

It was the same thing in the boys 100 fly after Bexon Harrison, EJ Altermatt, Owen Altermatt and Cian Maloney captured the top 4 spots with times of 53.50, 1:02, 1:03 and 1:05.

In the 100 free, Cora Skoog, Kenna Chastain, Meghan Jackson and Cayden Van Dyne won gold, silver and bronze and 4th place with times of 54.58, 58.95, 59.89 and 1:03.

In the boys 100 free, Will Harrison and William Tolar were 1st and 2nd with times of 48.96 and 51.31, while Aaron Mendoza was 4th with a time of 55.68.

Breanna Hempton won the girls 500 free after clocking in at 6:23 and Ana Metz was 2nd in 6:25, while on the boys side, Carson Muenchow, Owen Altermatt and Aidan Carney placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd with times of 5:01, 5:26 and 5:50. Also, Baylor Slay was 5th in 6:07.

The Lady Chargers won the 200 free relay after Kenna Chastain, Madi Neuman, Audrey Olivo and Cayden Can Dyne teamed up for a 1:53 for 1st, while the squad of William Tolar, Jake Canales, Will Harrison and Bexon Harrison combined for a time of 1:30 that was good enough for 1st.

Kate Deykin won the 100 backstroke in 1:02, Kenna Chastain was 2nd in 1:07, while Audrey Olivo and Meghan Jackson were 4-5 with times of 1:08.91 and 1:08.93.

In the boys 100 backstroke, Will Harrison and Ethan Roecker were 1st and 2nd with times of 57.40 and 1:00, while Roberto Perez Puente and Luke Bove went 4-5 after clocking in at 1:01 and 1:06.

The Lady Chargers captured the top 4 spots in the 100 breaststroke after Kate Canales won the event in 1:07, Camron Kellogg was 2nd in 1:10, Madi Neuman took 3rd in 1:12 and Victoria Sperber came in 4th in 1:15.

In the boys 100 breaststroke, Jake Canales posted a 1:05 for 2nd, Cian Maloney was 4th in 1:15 and Sarp Peterson clocked in at 1:18 for 6th.

In the final event of the meet, the Lady Chargers were 1st in the 400 free relay after Cora Skoog, Kate Deykin, Cameron Kellogg and Kate Canales turned in a 3:43, while in the boys race, Owen Altermatt, Carson Muenchow, EJ Altermatt and Roberto Perez Puente teamed up for 1st with a time of 3:39.
