Boerne Champion ended its girls basketball season on a high note Tuesday after the Chargers defeated Seguin in their final game of the year.
Champion won Tuesday’s contest, 66-44, to close out its season with a record of 11-23.
The Chargers went 4-10 in district and weren’t able to clinch a playoff spot this year, but they did send off their five seniors with a positive memory.
Both teams came out of the gate with a fast start Tuesday and were in double digits in the first quarter.
Champion was leading 15-12 in the first and created some distance in the second when they outscored the Matadors, 21-7, for the 36-19 halftime lead.
The Chargers slowed down a bit in the third and netted 11, while Seguin tallied 14 and the Champion advantage was 47-33 when the fourth quarter started.
The Matadors made a push in the final stanza but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Chargers team that went on to win the quarter, 19-11.
As a tribute to his five seniors, Champion coach Jason Sanders put the five on the court in the final minute to close out the game.
This year’s seniors are Kayla Ramirez, Adrianna Barreiro, Ainsley Serra, Bralyn Gault and Casandra Aleman.
Also, senior team manager Aryea Garcia and foreign exchange student Cris Ramon were both honored.
Ramon was honored as a senior even though she’s just a junior. She will head back to her native Spain at the end of the school year.
Hailey Winn led the Chargers with 17 points, Barreiro added 14 and Jenna Koepke tallied 11 as three Chargers were in double digits.
Gault had 7 points, Ramirez netted 4, Taylor Burk, Savannah Wayment and Addison Darter all nailed a 3, while Kamryn Edwards and Ainsley Darter added 2 points apiece.
