The Boerne High girls crushed Canyon Lake Friday night at home as they began to wind down the regular season in girls basketball.
BHS hosted the Lady Hawks and Boerne didn’t allow a point to Canyon Lake until the third quarter as they went on to win, 80-6.
Boerne improves to 28-4 overall and 9-2 in district. The Lady Hounds closed out the regular season Tuesday in Fredericksburg and will begin the playoffs the following Tuesday. The Boerne girls will host Gonzales Tuesday, Feb. 13, 7 p.m. in the first round. It will be the first time BHS coach Amy Ruede will host a playoff game at Greyhound Gym in her BHS coaching career.
Tuesday’s game between rivals Boerne and Fredericksburg won’t impact the district standings since the Billies wrapped up the 27-4A title with Friday’s win against Bandera, while Boerne will enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed.
Fred is 11-0 and Boerne is 9-2 in district, so even a BHS win Tuesday at Fred wouldn’t move the Hounds up from the No. 2 seed.
Boerne coach Amy Ruede said the fact that the top 2 seeds have already been determined in their district won’t affect how they approach Tuesday’s game.
“We always play to win,” she said.
In last Friday’s game, Boerne was up 24-0 in the first and won the second quarter, 23-0 for the 47-0 halftime lead.
Canyon Lake scored its first point of the game in the third but it was just one point, while BHS tallied 13 for the 60-1 advantage.
The Lady Hawks closed it out by scoring 5 points in the fourth quarter, but BHS knocked in 20 to close it out.
Averi Aaron led Boerne with 19 points, Chloe Donnell added 18, Abby Smith scored 11 and Jenna Ruede finished with 10 as four Lady Greyhounds were in double digits.
Meredith McLeod netted 6 points, Addison Palluch and Savannah Salinas both chipped in with 5, Mickena Randle netted 4 and Shelbie Porter hit for 2.
Aaron made it a double- double with 11 rebounds and the senior came up with 7 steals. Jenna Ruede also had 7 steals, Palluch and Donnell recorded 5 steals each and Salinas dished out 6 assists.
