Comfort faces Ingram in winner-take-all contest

Comfort faces Ingram in winner-take-all contest

The Comfort girls basketball team kept their playoff hopes alive with a 43-36 win over Florence Friday night.

With the win the Deer improve to 9-20 on the season and 3-6 in District 5-3A play. They traveled to Ingram Tuesday for the regular-season finale.

Both Comfort and Ingram are 3-6 in district play and tied for fourth so whichever team wins that game will be the fourth seed out of 5-3A and snag the final playoff spot up for grabs.

Prior to Friday, the Deer were at Blanco.

Vs. Florence

Comfort took a 24-16 lead into halftime and then traded baskets with the Wolves in the second half and scored 19 points, while Florence tallied 20 to give Comfort the 43-36 win.

Rachel Adams led the team with 15 points and Katie Haffner added 12, Hannah Adams finished with 6 points, Jael Hernandez had 4, while Alexa Lozano, Tindall Ahrens and Cynthia Leos all chipped in with 2.

Hannah Adams grabbed 8 rebounds, Rachel Adams had 6 boards and Ahrens had 5 boards. Hernandez added 7 assists and 6 steals to her totals.

Vs. Blanco

Comfort tried to rally in the fourth quarter in last Tuesday’s game vs. Blanco but came up short, 44-34.

Blanco was up 20-15 by halftime and then Comfort really struggled in the third and was outscored 15-2, but the Deer found its offense in the fourth quarter.

The Deer responded with a 17-9 run in the final stanza but it wasn’t enough.

Katie Haffner led Comfort with 10 points, Rachel Adams added 7, Tindall Ahrens and Hannah Adams both scored 6 and Jael Hernandez chipped in with 4 points.

Haffner grabbed 8 rebounds, while Ahrens and both Adams girls pulled down 6 rebounds each.

Hernandez came up with 4 steals and dished out 5 assists, Haffner had 3 steals and Rachel Adams recorded 3 assists.
