Boerne ISD to take break for eclipse

Boerne ISD to take break for eclipse

As Boerne ISD reaches the midway point of its third nine-week grading period, students, parents and staff have eyes cast to the remainder of the school year and key dates to circle on the calendar.

April 8 looms large, as the district will shut its doors to allow its students and staff to witness the solar eclipse that afternoon. During eclipse totality, the moon will completely block out the sun for 4 minutes and 23 seconds beginning at 1:32 p.m.

Schools will close Feb. 19 to observe Presidents’ Day before spring break week, when school will be dismissed March 11-15. Good Friday follows, another day of school closure, on March 29.

April days off for students include April 1 and the solar eclipse observance April 8. There are no recognized holidays the rest of April and May, until the final day of school May 23.

For parents with seniors in the Class of 2024, Champion High School’s graduation ceremony is set for May 23, with Boerne High School following the next day (May 24).

The district’s 2024-2025 calendar, approved by the board of trustees in December, is markedly similar to the current calendar.

School begins Aug. 12, with Labor Day (Sept. 2) and Columbus Day (Oct. 11 and 14) holidays prior to Thanksgiving. School will be dismissed Nov. 25-29 for Thanksgiving, while Christmas break begins Dec. 23. Students return for the first day of school in 2025 on Jan. 13. This is the same three-week break enjoyed this past holiday season.

Spring break rolls around in the second week of March, with no school March 10-14. Good Friday on April 18 is the final holiday of the year before school dismisses May 22.
