A Boerne ISD head coach was released from the Kendall County Detention Center Sunday on a $1,500 bond after being charged early Sunday morning with driving while intoxicated.
Scott Slay, 46, the head water polo coach for Boerne ISD and coach of both Boerne and Champion high schools’ swim and dive teams, was booked into the county detention facility at 5:38 a.m. Sunday on the DWI charge.
Slay was placed on leave by the district following the incident.
“A member of the Boerne ISD coaching staff was arrested early Sunday morning for an incident unrelated to BISD. The employee has been placed on leave. Boerne ISD cannot discuss personnel matters,” Bryan Benway, BISD director of communications, stated Monday.
This is Slay’s first year as a coach and world geography teacher at Champion. The water polo team finished second in the state meet in October, its second consecutive runner-up silver medal performance at the state meet.
