Cornerstone used the long ball to defeat the Boerne High softball team Wednesday evening in a non-district contest.
The Warriors knocked four out of the park and beat BHS, 8-3. It’s only the fourth loss of the season for the Boerne team that stands at 13-4.
Boerne opens district Friday afternoon when they host Bandera, 1 p.m.
If there’s any consolation in giving up four homers on Tuesday, it’s that they were all solo shots. Cornerstone’s lead-off hitter in the first knocked one out, followed by a solo home run in the fifth and then back-to-back solo homers in the sixth.
Boerne actually scored first with a run in the top of the first inning when Brooke Sivek singled, stole second and third and then came home on a Cameron Cooper sac fly to left to make it 1-0.
Cornerstone answered with a homer in the bottom half of the inning to tie it and never trailed again.
The Warriors pushed in 4 runs in the bottom of the second to make it 5-1 behind two walks and three singles.
Sivek scored again in the fifth and Cooper picked up another RBI after Sivek singled and Cooper hit a triple to make it 5-2, but a double play in the inning helped the Warriors avoid too much damage.
Cornerstone hit a solo shot in the bottom of the fifth, followed by two more in the sixth to open up an 8-2 lead.
In the top of the seventh, Ava Nieto doubled and later scored on a ground out to make it 8-3, which is where it stayed.
Cooper tripled and singled and brought in 2 runs, Nieto doubled and scored, Sivek hit 2 singles and scored twice, Reese Wilson singled, Madi Dorrow doubled and Taylor Wilson singled.
Ava Rodriguez went 6 innings in the circle and gave up 8 hits, 8 runs, fanned 7 and walked 2.
Both teams finished with 8 hits in the game.
