Boerne girls win, but Fred maintains grip on first place

Boerne girls win, but Fred maintains grip on first place

The Lady Hounds defeated Navarro Tuesday on the road in girls basketball, 55-22, but Fredericksburg beat Davenport on the same night and closed in on this year’s district title.

If Fred won Friday vs. Bandera the Billies claimed this year’s district title, which means Boerne will enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed from 27-4A.

Fredericksburg was 10-0 in district and BHS is 8-2 (27-4 overall) heading into Friday.

With two losses in district, the best Boerne can do is finish 10-2, while the worst Fred can do is 10-2.

Boerne has to win out and Fred has to lose out in order for there to be a tie atop the district standings.

The Billies won their first-round meeting and Boerne does visit the Billies to close out the regular season on Tuesday.

A win Friday by Fred against Bandera will mean Tuesday’s game between Boerne and Fred won’t affect seeding in the district regardless of the outcome.

The Lady Hounds were home and hosted Canyon Lake Friday.

Tuesday in Navarro, Abby Smith and Averi Aaron both tallied 16 points apiece, Jenna Ruede scored 7, Meredith McLeod and Addison Palluch knocked in 6 each, Savannah Salinas had 3 and Mickena Randle netted 2.
