It was quite a night for Colton Lutz Tuesday when the Geneva School of Boerne boys basketball team hosted Corpus Christi John Paul II to open their district tournament.
Prior to the game, Lutz was recognized at mid-court for reaching the 1,000-point plateau and once the game started, Lutz went out and added 35 more points to his career total.
Lutz scored in every quarter and finished with half the team’s points after they recorded a 70-48 victory.
The Eagles improved to 21-6 overall and 8-1 in district. They were scheduled to host Schertz John Paul II Friday as they continue play in the district tourney.
A win Friday and the Eagles can sit out until the championship game.
In Tuesday’s game, Lutz scored 22 of his points in the second half and heated up from the outside with four 3-pointers, three in the third quarter alone. He made nine 2-pointers, five 3-pointers and was 2 for 4 at the free-throw line.
Caleb Quitadamo and Griffin Freiling both netted 11 and Jack Taylor scored 10 as four Eagles were in double digits.
Noah Brunsvold added 2 points and Carter Doan hit a free throw.
