Boerne Champion was on the road Tuesday for a girls basketball game at New Braunfels Canyon as they continued 26-5A action.
NBC was able to defeat the Lady Chargers, 62-45, to complete the season sweep over Champion this year. The Cougarettes won their game in the first round on Dec. 18, 55-40.
Champion slips to 10-21 overall and 3-7 in district. They were on the road Friday at Kerrville Tivy and host Pieper Tuesday.
It was a good start for both squads last Tuesday after the Chargers and Cougarettes were in double digits with NB Canyon leading at the end of the first quarter, 19-12.
NBC kept it up and hit in double figures in the second and third with 10 and 20, while the Champion offense stalled a bit and tallied 5 in the second and 6 in the third to trail 49-23 as the game went into the final stanza.
In the fourth, the Chargers played well and scored 22 points and outscored the New Braunfels school, 22-13, but didn’t make up much ground.
Kayla Ramirez, Abby Sommer and Hailey Winn all recorded 8 points apiece, Adriana Barreiro scored 7, Cris Ramon had 4, Addison Darter and Taylor Burk netted 3, Ainsley Darter and Bralyn Gault both chipped in with 2.
Barreiro added 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 blocks to her totals.
