We are blessed to live in Texas Hill Country where we can enjoy scenic beauty, diverse cultures, legendary events, a creative culinary scene, and a variety of things to do, all within driving distance of our respective communities.
A treasure can be found in nearby Kerrville where the Museum of Western Art — formerly the Cowboy Artists of America Museum, having recently celebrated its 40th anniversary — resides.
Current exhibitions are “From the Vaults: Works from the Permanent Collection” through April 20, and “Glory and Grime: The Art of Susanne Vincent” through March 2.
On Feb. 3, from 5-7:30 p.m., a special viewing will be held of “Cowboys: A Documentary Portrait.” Admission is free, but you must reserve your ticket at the website: www.museumofwesternart.com.
Additionally, the museum is offering three, three-day adult art workshops. Join master artist 1. Todd A. Williams in the examination of Finding Your Inner Voice April 29-May 1.
This workshop will center on design, value control, color control, edges, paint manipulation, and variety/ unity. Williams will teach his step-by-step method of painting the landscape in oil. Sessions include lunch each day.
2. Join Taos and Fredericksburg artist C.S. Steve Talley on how to paint Western mountains: daytime and nighttime scenarios, from May 7-9.
Each class will begin with Steve providing a one-hour demonstration pertinent to the day’s lesson plan. Sessions also include lunch each day.
3. Finally, Cowboy Artists of America member Jack Sorenson leads a fun-filled workshop, “How to Put Your Heart into Your Art,” June 20-22. Sorenson will focus on teaching great composition, the use of color, and telling stories with art. Eash session includes lunch each day. Class sizes are limited.
