BOERNE — Carlin Friar has filed for re-election to Place 1 on the Boerne ISD board of trustees.
He is in his ninth year as a Trustee, currently serves as President of the Board, and serves on the finance, facilities and safety/security committees.
A 1989 graduate of Boerne High School and lifelong resident of the Boerne and Leon Springs area, Friar has three children who graduated from Champion High School in 2022.
His wife of almost 25 years, Susan, is a realtor with Lone Star Properties in Boerne and Friar has been in the banking industry for 37 years.
In addition to Boerne ISD, he currently serves as a board member of Create Healthy, a charitable foundation based in Gillespie County focusing on health and wellness in the Texas Hill Country.
Prior to his involvement with the Boerne ISD board of trustees, his community involvement includes service on the boards of: The United Way of Kendall County; Boys and Girls Club of the Texas Hill Country; Hill Country Memorial Hospital in Fredericksburg; Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce; and The Boerne-Kendall County Economic Development Corporation.
“I was fortunate to have been provided a great public education, starting at Northside ISD and then graduating from Boerne,” Friar said. “It is my desire to continue to provide leadership to the district so that today’s students, as well as those who will enroll into our district in the future, get the same or better opportunities for a quality education as our community grows.”
“We have excellent and dedicated teachers that positively impact our students’ lives inside the classroom and out,” he added. “The well-rounded education our students receive wouldn’t be possible without support from the district offices, athletic coaches, fine arts leaders and career and technical education professionals.” Friar thanked the community for its support in recent bond elections.
“The district is improving and expanding existing buildings and campuses, and is in the process of completing the construction of the eighth elementary school,” Friar said.
The bond initiatives, he said, also include enhanced Security and Information Technology projects. Collaboration with local elected officials remains a priority, and apparent in the district’s partnership with the city of Boerne, the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office, and the city of Fair Oaks Ranch with the placement of School Resource Officers at each of the district’s 12 campuses.
“We have built great momentum in focusing on student achievement, while being good stewards of taxpayer funds,” he said. Boerne ISD was recently named the Best School District in Texas, a Top Employer in the San Antonio region, and the Region 20 School Board of the Year.
Friar has also been an advocate on behalf of Boerne ISD with the state Legislature in Austin, where in the last six years, the district has been able to lower the total tax rate from $1.354 per $100 in taxable value in 2018, to a total tax rate of $0.9932 per $100 in value in 2023, a decrease of $0.3608, or 26%, in the tax rate.
“I am seeking re-election to the board and ask for your support and vote,” said Friar, currently serving as school board president.
“In the midst of growth, both in student population and campus facilities, along with the integration of our new superintendent, I want to help ensure that we keep focused on what matters most to the future success of our community — the students.”
