June 14, 1934 – Jan. 18, 2024

Our beloved wife, Mom, Mimi, Helen Riddick Janse, 89, joined her Lord and savior in her eternal home on Jan. 18, 2024.

She was a native Houstonian, born on June 14, 1934, to Helen Akin (Riddick) Welsh and Campbell Wiley Riddick. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Hugh Clayton Welsh; and her sister, Ann Charlene Riddick.

Helen attended Lamar High School and the University of Texas, where she was a Kappa Alpha Theta. She married the love of her life, Hector Mason Janse Jr., at First Presbyterian Church Houston on Aug. 28, 1954.

They attend Cibolo Creek Church in Boerne, Texas. She is survived by her daughter, Tina Finley (Deets); four sons, Cam Janse (Nancy), Chris Janse (Carolyn), Mark Janse (Mark Dean), and Scott Janse (Maureen); 11 grandchildren, Deets Finley Jr., Christi Finley, Mason Finley, Campbell Janse Jr., Connor Janse, Harrison Janse, Michel Janse, Jacqueline Guitierrez, Scott Janse Jr., Mason Janse, and Grace Janse; and six great-grandchildren.

Helen’s family was the joy of her life and she took part in every opportunity to support and volunteer in all aspects of their lives.

She loved gardening, interior design, cooking/entertaining, serving others, tennis, golf, travel, women’s ministry and Bible studies, bridge, mahjong, the beach in Galveston, volunteering at First Presbyterian Church, Junior League, and the Houston Country Club.

She was the beautiful picture of grace, faith, love, devotion, courage, commitment, strength, wisdom, wit, and a stoic overcomer. The Lord says, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Jan. 30, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church, 5300 Main St., Houston, Texas.
