Comfort’s girls basketball squad played in a couple of tight games last week and won a close one at Florence before falling at home Friday to Ingram to close out the first round of district.
The two games were decided by a total of nine points after they beat Florence by 5 and lost to Ingram by 4.
Comfort stands at 2-3 in District 5-3A play and 8-17 overall. They started the second round of district play Tuesday at home against Brady.
Vs. Ingram
The Deer raced out to a 14-4 lead in the first quarter, only to be met by Ingram’s 14-3 run in the second to take an 18-17 lead into halftime.
Both teams struggled to score in the second half, but it was Ingram that pulled away after they outscored the Deer over the final two quarters, 15-12, for the 33-29 win.
Rachel Adams had a strong game with 13 points, Katie Haffner scored 6, Hannah Adams netted 5, Tindall Ahrens finished with 4 and Jael Hernandez hit a free throw.
Ahrens grabbed 7 rebounds, Molly Gowan had 6 rebounds, Haffner came up with 5 steals, while Hernandez added 3 assists.
Vs. Florence
Comfort stuffed the Lady Buffs, 37-32. The Deer were consistent and scored 10 in the first and second and added 11 in the third for the 31-22 lead.
Florence was held to single digits in the first three quarters and tallied 7, 8 and 7 to get its 22 points.
The Lady Buffaloes made a push in the fourth and outscored the Deer but only by 4 points, 10-6, to give Comfort the 5-point win.
Rachel Adams paced the Deer with 13 points, Jael Hernandez added 7 points, Danielle Ruelas had 6, Katie Haffner netted 5, Tindall Ahrens tallied 4 and Cynthia Leos had 2 points.
Ahrens grabbed 13 rebounds and Haffner snagged 8 boards, tallied 4 assists and recorded 3 steals, while Hernandez came up with 3 steals.
