Jane Elsie Kneupper Roach

December 13, 1941 – January 4, 2024

On Jan. 4, 2024, Jane Elsie Kneupper Roach of San Antonio, Texas, and later Umatilla, Florida, went home to her Savior Jesus Christ following complications from Alzheimer’s Dementia. She was 82 years old.

Jane was born in San Antonio, Texas, on Dec. 13, 1941. After graduating early from Jefferson High School in 1960, she attended Southwest Texas State University, earning a bachelor’s degree in education, with a minor in music, in 1965.

Following the completion of a master’s degree in mathematics, she served on the mathematics faculties of Southwest Texas State University and of San Antonio College while completing coursework for a doctoral degree at the University of Texas.

In 1974, Jane joined her first class of Bible Study Fellowship, leading to her most beloved biblical teaching career. She served as a BSF teaching leader for seven years, then joined the headquarters’ staff in 1988 as director of training, serving under three executive directors.

She wrote and edited lessons and procedures, lectured on a wide variety of topics in worldwide retreats, led hymn singing from the piano, and trained hundreds of leaders.

After her retirement in 2011, she continued to gather groups for Bible studies in homes and at Trinity Presbyterian Church PCA, where she was a founding member. Materials from these classes were published as Joy Beyond Agony: Embracing the Cross of Christ (2015) and God’s Mysterious Ways: Embracing God’s Providence in Esther (2016).

Jane lived in San Antonio until 1998, at which time she moved to Fair Oaks Ranch and resided there until her husband’s death in 2023, when she moved nearer to her son in Umatilla, Florida.

Jane enjoyed hosting family meals, playing games with her grandchildren, cheering for the San Antonio Spurs, and creating handmade gifts of embroidery, sewing, and crochet.

Jane is survived by her twin sister, Judith Helen Kneupper Bullington; sister-in-law, Anita Roach of Converse, Texas; children, Kristin Roach of Appleton, Wisc., and James F. Roach IV (Tiffany) of Umatilla; and grandchildren Karl and Kyle Roach-Compton and Gracelyn, Seth, Nathan, Mikah and Jude Roach.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Charles Kneupper and Helen Verlyn Michalchak; her sister, Verlyn Elaine Kneupper Loest; and her husband of 57 years, James “Jim” F. Roach III.

A viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, 2024, at Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home in Boerne. There will be a graveside service at 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20 at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Helotes, Texas, followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Boerne.

The family would like to offer sincere thanks to the nursing staff at Edgewater Rehabilitation Center, as well as express with deep gratitude their appreciation for friends and family and the many prayers of love and support.
