Chargers pull away from Matadors

After a close first quarter, the Boerne Champion boys hoops team pulled away from visiting Seguin Friday with a couple of strong quarters in the second and third.

The Chargers went on to defeat the Matadors, 68-41, to remain unbeaten in 26-5A.

Champion is 22-3 overall and 5-0 in district. They are scheduled to host Wagner Wednesday and visit Veterans Memorial to close out the first round Friday.

Last Friday’s contest was tied 14-14 after one but that’s when the Chargers started to pull away.

Champion outscored the Matadors in the second, 24-13, in the second and 20-7 in the third to open up a 57-33 advantage.

The Chargers coasted in the fourth quarter but still won the period, 11-8.

Charlie Georgelos paced Champion with 19 points, Briggs Jones added 17 points, Kristian Herrera had 8, Quinn Grable scored 7, Mason Wyatt added 6, Joshua Marquez finished with 5, Louis Hudspeth, Cole Riha and Preston Lee all chipped in with 2.
