Comfort hosted archrival Blanco Friday night at home to open District 5-3A action and while the Bobcats played well, they suffered a 5-point loss to the Panthers.
With the setback, the Cats fall to 0-1 in district and 15-9 overall. They traveled to Florence on Tuesday.
Comfort was actually leading 21-16 after one quarter but the Panthers caught them in the second and then pulled away in the third.
Blanco won the second quarter, 12-7, to tie it up at 28-all at halftime. Once the third period began, the Panthers outscored the Bobcats, 24-13, and held a 52-41 lead by the end of the stanza.
Comfort tried to rally in the final quarter and tallied 21 points but Blanco scored enough points — 15 — to maintain a lead.
The Bobcats outshot the Panthers 48 percent to 39 percent but Blanco knocked down more 3-pointers than Comfort, 9-4.
CHS was good at the free-throw line and went 10 for 13 for 76.9 percent, but Blanco was good on the boards and collected 15 offensive rebounds.
Jaydin Steward led Comfort with 18 points, Joel Lozano added 16 and Jared Valadez made it three in double digits with 11 points.
Lozano was 4 for 5 at the line and Valadez went 4 for 4.
Jovani Zapata netted 7, Jackson Dear and Santos Hernandez both tallied 4 and Aidan Schwarz dropped in 2.
Steward made it a double-double with 10 rebounds to go with his 18 points, Zapata recorded 8 assists and Lozano had a steal.
