Eagles fly away from Angels, 56-35

The Geneva girls basketball team used a strong second quarter to pull away from visiting Corpus Christi Incarnate Word Academy Friday night in Boerne.

Geneva was trailing 14-12 at the end of the quarter but outscored the Angels in the second stanza, 23-4, and never trailed from there.

The Eagles went on to post a 56-35 victory. They are 5-0 in district and 20-3 overall. Geneva was scheduled to play Veritas Academy Wednesday.

Geneva’s strong second quarter gave them a 35-18 lead at halftime. Once the third period started the Eagles had another strong quarter and doubled up the Angels, 18-9, to build a 53-27 lead.

CC IW closed out the fourth quarter with 8 points, while the Eagles scored 3.

Maegan Riebel led Geneva with 22 points and Kyra Petty added 15. Bethany DeLuna scored 7, Madeline Egbert and Lindsay Lee both netted 6.

Riebel also led the team in rebounding with 8 boards, Petty snagged 6 rebounds and dished out 5 assists, Egbert came up with 3 steals and Lee blocked 2 shots.
