Jan. 17 first day to file for city, BISD May elections

BY JEFF B. FLINN Managing Editor

January 17 is the first day for candidates to file in several area races that will appear on the May 4 ballot.

Three council seats on Boerne City Council will be up for grabs – District 1, held by Ty Wolosin; District 3, by Quinten Scott; and District 5, by Joseph Macaluso.

All three men were re-elected in 2022 with no opposition. All are serving twoyear terms.

Three members of the Boerne Independent School District have decisions to make about filing for re-election.

Board President Carlin Friar, who serves in Place 1, is up for re-election. He is serving his third term on the board.

Place 2’s Joe Tidwell has been on the board since 2016, when he was elected to fill a board vacancy. He has since been re-elected, most recently in 2021.

Jessica Davila occupies the BISD Place 3 seat that is up for election. She won the seat in the spot in the 2021 board election. All three school board seats are three-year terms.

Fair Oaks Ranch Mayor Greg Maxton is one of two names Ranch residents are likely to see on the ballot. Maxton took 54% of the vote in 2021 to capture the mayor’s seat.

Place 1 Councilwoman Emily Stroup also prevailed in the 2021 election with 54% of the vote. Both spots are the May ballot as three-year terms.

Candidacy declaration begins Wednesday and runs through February 16. The last day to register to vote in the May 4 election is April 4.

Early voting begins Monday, April 22 and runs through Tuesday, April 30.
