The Boerne High girls didn’t waste any time taking control of Tuesday’s district basketball game at Canyon Lake.
BHS was leading 26-4 by the end of the first quarter on its way to a 59-21 victory over the Hawks.
The Lady Greyhounds are 23-3 overall and 4-1 in district. They played Fredericksburg Friday in a battle of state-ranked teams to close out the first round.
Boerne will host Davenport Tuesday to begin the second round as part of a four-game home stand that started with Fred.
After jumping out to a 26-4 lead, the Lady Hounds outscored the Hawks in the second, 14-2, and in the third, 17-4, as their lead ballooned to 57-10.
The Hawks closed it out by winning the fourth quarter, 11-2.
Boerne forced 35 turnovers in the game and scored 37 points off those turnovers. They also came up with 20 steals and 23 deflections.
BHS was also good offensively and recorded 17 assists and were led in that department by Jenna Ruede who tallied 9 assists.
Averi Aaron had a big game and finished with 22 points and Abby Smith added 16 points after both shot 50 percent from the field.
Meredith McCloud scored 7, Shelbie Porter tallied 5, while Mickena Randle, Addison Palluch and Ruede all dropped in 3 points apiece.
Savannah Salinas and Aaron each grabbed 7 boards, Ruede came up with 6 steals and McCloud had 3 steals.
