Every team in the district has played the Boerne Champion boys basketball team tough so far, but the Chargers have found a way to win all four 26-5A contests to remain unbeaten in league play.
Champion was at Smithson Valley Tuesday and the Rangers were within a basket but the Chargers prevailed 47-44.
Champion is 4-0 in 26-5A and three of their wins have come by a combined 12 points. Their other victory came by 10 points against Pieper.
The Chargers were home Friday to host Seguin and then host Wagner Tuesday in a key district match up.
Smithson Valley jumped out to a double-digit lead in Tuesday’s contest and was up 16-5 but the Chargers outscored them in the second, 11-4, and the Rangers lead was down to four points by halftime at 20-16.
Champion made its move in the third and won the period, 19-8, and took a 35-28 lead into the final stanza.
The Rangers tried to rally in the fourth and outscored the Chargers in the period, 16-12, but it wasn’t enough to defeat Champion.
Briggs Jones led the Chargers with 17 points, Quinn Grable scored 14, Charlie Georgelos added 9, Baeden Burdick netted 5 and Logan Scott chipped in with 2.
