Reception for new artist at Carriage House Gallery.
The Artists-Partners of Carriage House Gallery invite you to meet Martha Sherman, the gallery's newest artist, at an artist's reception, Saturday, January 13, 4-7 p.m.
Enjoy a fun evening celebrating Sherman's sculptures, new friendships, wine and music. She will be available to share her creative inspiration, and the stories behind her artworks.
According to Sherman, “My sculpture reflects my joy in the outdoors, my love of nature and my awareness of the overall beauty of the world around us. If I can share this with others through my creations, I feel I have achieved my goal as a sculptor.”
Inspiration for her totems comes from many unexpected places. Baby Fox Dream was based on the baby fox found living on their property and the freerange chickens from their neighbors' flock.
Each of Sherman's sculptures are formed through manipulating thrown forms made on the potters wheel, with additional hand-built pieces where needed. These are then colored by hand and fired.
Martha Sherman is a native Texan, and hails from a family that celebrated independent thinking, education, love of the land, and the visual arts. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in visual arts from the University of Texas at Austin, Sherman taught for 30 years in Texas high schools and colleges.
Now in retirement, she has spent the last 10 years creating ceramic sculptures with an emphasis on Texas native birds and animals. There is also a Southwestern component to her work that is delightful.
The Carriage House Gallery is at 110 Rosewood Ave. in Boerne. For details, see: www.carriagehousegallery. com, or send inquiry to info@carriagehousegallerytx.
