The Comfort Deer basketball team opened District 5-3A play Friday in Brady and fell, 40-24.
Comfort slips to 6-15 overall and 0-1 in district. The Deer hosted Llano on Tuesday.
Friday’s contest was a defensive battle for all of the first and most of the second quarters.
Brady went on a 9-0 run to finish the first half and take a 19-10 lead into the break.
The Deer fought back in the third quarter and cut the lead to 6 points at 30-24 to begin the final stanza but Brady went on a 10-0 run to close out the Deer team that only scored one point in the fourth quarter.
It was an off-night shooting as the Deer only shot 21 percent from the field.
Tindall Ahrens led the team with 6 points, Rachel Adams and Katie Haffner both tallied 5, Jael Hernandez and Hannah Adams netted 4 points apiece.
Ahrens collected 8 rebounds, Haffner and Rachel Dams hauled in 7 boards each, Ahrens came up with 6 steals and Rachel Adams had 2 assists.
