Geneva rallies in 4th quarter to hold off Holy Cross, 56-52

The Geneva School of Boerne boys basketball team won a nailbiter over Holy Cross last Friday night in San Antonio.

Geneva was trailing by as many as nine points in the fourth quarter but the still prevailed, 56-52.

Geneva improves to 16-5 overall and 3-0 in district.

The Eagles hosted CC John Paul II Tuesday and welcome another Corpus Christi School Friday when they tangle with the CC Incarnate Word Angels.

After falling behind by nine points in the final stanza, the Eagles went on a 15-2 run to close out the game. They outscored Holy Cross in the fourth quarter, 22-13, after they started the final stanza trailing, 39-34.

With Geneva up by a point at 53-52, Griffin Freiling came up with a steal and was fouled. Freiling went to the line and made one of two foul shots for the 54-52 lead.

Holy Cross was fouled on its next possession but missed both free throws and Geneva had possession of the ball. Jack Taylor was fouled with three ticks on the clock and sank both free throws to ice the game.

Wyatt Bruss led the Eagles with 16 points, Colton Lutz and Freiling both added 11, K.P. FitzGerald netted 7, Taylor netted 6 and Jack Walker Harden chipped in with 4 points.
