Greyhound soccer teams both post

3-0

marks at tournaments

The Boerne High boys and girls soccer teams had strong starts to their 2024 seasons after they both were entered in tournaments last weekend and both went undefeated.

The BHS boys and girls start the year at 3-0 after last weekend and they combined for five shutouts in their six matches played.

Varsity Boys

The Boerne High went 3-0 at the Alamo Heights tournament and was crowned tournament champs at the round-robin event.

There were two brackets at the tourney and while there may have been another undefeated team, the BHS boys won the tiebreaker to earn the title.

Boerne won all three matches while a team on the other side of the bracket went to penalty kicks to decide a winner. A team that didn’t go to PKs and stayed unbeaten was the first tiebreaker used at the event.

At the tourney, the Greyhounds pitched two shutouts against 6A teams after they opened up with a 2-0 win over Sotomayor last Thursday.

Boerne returned Friday to play LEE in a battle of former state champs. The Hounds won that contest 1-0 against former Chargers coach Dave Rogers.

BHS closed out the event with a 2-1 victory over Waxahachie on Saturday.

Coach Michael Strong said they didn’t announce any type of all-tournament team selections.

The Hounds are off until this weekend when they travel to the Houston area to play in the Hargrave Tournament.

Varsity Girls

The Boerne girls played in the Northside Tournament and also posted a 3-0 record. It was just a round-robin tourney, so no tournament winner was decided, nor were there any all-tournament team announced, according to coach Jeremy Shannon.

Boerne opened with an impressive win over Lockhart, 7-0, on Thursday.

The Lady Greyhounds returned Friday and defeated 6A Northside Marshall, 2-0.

In its final match of the day on Saturday, the Lady Greyhounds recorded its third shutout of the season after they kept Southwest Legacy off the board and won the match, 2-0.

The Lady Greyhounds were scheduled to play at Judson on Tuesday and then travel to Floresville Friday to take on Pleasanton.
