Michalia Danielle DuBose
July 29, 1994 – February 21, 2022
Michalia Danielle DuBose, our loving daughter, sister and a friend to many, passed away in Austin, Texas, on February 21, 2022. She was born on July 29, 1994, in Orlando, Florida, and she lived in the Chicago area as a Navy military child and enjoyed activities at the Naval Training Center and Naval Hospital Great Lakes.
She later moved with her family to Boerne, Texas, and attended Kendall Elementary School, Boerne Middle School South and was a 2012 graduate of Boerne-Champion High School, where she was active in many organizations, including band, JROTC and drill team.
Michalia enjoyed volunteering with Hill Country Daily Bread, the Greater Boerne Chamber of Commerce and other community organizations with family and friends. She also enjoyed performing in plays with her dad at the Boerne Community Theatre. Michalia was compassionate and caring and always had a heart to help others and make a difference.
After graduation, Michalia headed to Austin to successfully pursue her dream in the culinary arts and became a pastry chef. After graduation from the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu Culinary School, she traveled all over the country to hone her skills within her industry, and she made many friends along the way, including in Lubbock and Austin, where she had worked in the restaurant industry as a pastry chef and other roles for the last decade. She enjoyed opportunities to stage (stagiaire) under amazing chefs, including Michelin Star Chef Michael Mina in San Francisco.
Always kindhearted and known for her huge smile that would light up a room, Michalia was artistic and creative. She loved painting and enjoyed being in nature and the outdoors. She also loved to travel and experience everything the world had to offer, including travels through Europe, as well as a treasured trip to South Africa to visit family. She loved her time in Costa Rica with her friend, Shanna.
These adventures were some of her fondest experiences, and she had many future adventures already planned, including Costa Rica.
Michalia loved the water and was drawn to it. On trips to the coast her sister, Bev, and Michalia would be so excited that they would run into the sea with their clothes on and plunge in. She traveled internationally and especially enjoyed trips with her sister, Beverley, to visit the beautiful country of South Africa.
In addition to being a beloved little sister, she also loved the role of being a big sister to her baby brother, whom she adored. She loved spending time with her family as often as she could, and she will be forever missed.
Michalia was preceded in death by mother Patricia Madewell DuBose; grandmother Angelina DuBose; grandfather Louis Hunter DuBose; grandmother Marylee Brymer; grandfather J.B. Madewell; and aunt Kathy Wright. She is survived by her loving parents, Jacques and Annelise DuBose of Boerne; siblings J. Brennan DuBose, Beverley Appelgryn (Marinus) and Jacques F. DuBose; grandmother Annelise Bekker; numerous aunts and uncles, Louis H. DuBose (Jeanne), Linda Dubois, Vivian Measels (Ronnie), Dwayne Madewell, Joe Madewell (Melinda), Marilyn Madewell, Tina Greyling (Arie), Estie Van der Merwe, (Johan); and niece Audrina DuBose and boyfriend David Whalen.
A visitation will take place for family and friends on Sunday, March 20, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home. A celebration of Michalia’s Life will be held on Monday, March 21, 2022, at 10 a.m. St. John Lutheran Church, 315 Rosewood Ave. After the service, there will be a gathering of family and friends to remember Michalia at The Gathering Hall at Herff Farm, 33 Herff Road.
