While the Comfort girls headed to Hondo on Jan. 2 to start the new year, the Bobcats stayed home and hosted the Owls.
The Bobcats had a better go of it and came away with a 9-point victory, 76-67.
With the win the Cats improved to 13-8 on the season. They traveled to Poteet Friday.
Hondo held the early lead in Tuesday’s game and was up by a point, 17-16, after one but Comfort caught them in the second by winning the quarter, 19-15, to take a 35-32 lead at the break.
The Bobcats started to pull away in the third and claimed the quarter by 11 points, 25-14, to open up a 60-46 advantage.
Hondo tried to mount a comeback in the fourth quarter but only outscored the Cats by 5 points, 21-16, to give Comfort the 9-point win.
Jaydin Steward led the team with 22 points and 17 rebounds, Joel Lozano added 16 and Santos Hernandez netted 11. Jovani Zapata netted 9, Jackson Dear tallied 7, Aidan Schwarz scored 6 and Jared Valadez hit for 5.
Zapata finished with 4 assists and three players – Dear, Zapata and Hernandez – came up with 2 steals each.
