Champion boys soccer squad victorious in season opener

Amidst the cold and the rain, the Champion boys soccer team opened its 2024 season on the road Tuesday at La Vernia.

The Chargers overcame the elements and the Bears and went on to record a 1-0 victory.

Champion starts the year at 1-0 and was scheduled to host an alumni game Friday. They’ll resume non-district play Tuesday against Harlandale at Harlandale Memorial Stadium, 6:30 p.m. In Tuesday’s match, Bryce Knell had the team’s only goal on the assist from Bentley McCool, while the defense pitched its first shutout of the young season.
