The Comfort boys basketball team tangled with West Campus and then played in the Luling Tournament to close out 2023.
Comfort is 12-8 overall and plays Hondo and Poteet this week in non-district games before beginning district action the following week.
Vs. West Campus
The Bobcats survived a 34-21 second and third quarter run by the West Campus Cougars and went on to win the game, 58-55, to stand at 9-7 before the tournament.
Jovani Zapata led Comfort with 16 points, while Jaydin Steward and Joel Lozano both netted 14.
Luling Tournament
At the Luling tournament held Thursday – Friday, Dec. 28-29, Comfort went 3-1 and opened with a split on the first day, falling to Natalia and beating Prairie Lea.
The Cats fell to Natalia 62-53 despite having four players in double digits. Jaydin Steward scored 11, while Joel Lozano, Santos Hernandez and Jackson Dear all chipped in with 10.
Up next, Comfort blew out Prairie Lea, 77-27. Jackson Dear led the team with 18 points and Joel Lozano added 17 as nine CHS players scored in the game.
Comfort returned Friday and edged host Luling, 70-69. Joel Lozano led the team with 19, Jaydin Steward added 15, Santos Hernandez netted 14 and Jackson Dear dropped in 10.
Comfort closed out the final day with a win over Yoakum with an inverted score of 64-46. Joel Lozano paced the Cats with 19, Santos Hernandez tallied 15 and Jaydin Steward added 14 to help the Bobcats win.
