Opportunities abound in the new year to help, to serve

BOERNE MAYOR

FRANK RITCHIE

As we celebrated the Christmas and New Year season, we are often pulled in many directions for the holidays. With that being said, I thought I would recap some of what I have experienced these past few months as mayor of our amazing town and community.

Stepping into this role of public service has been amazing, enlightening, rewarding, frustrating, confusing, and educational, all at once. I have experienced a tremendous amount of support from the community, city staff, and too many others to list.

I have observed and experienced the city staff and all its employees pour their heart into our community for its betterment. I also have experienced the frustrations and concerns voiced in our community and what the future holds for Boerne.

I have seen the community working together and independently to keep Boerne the special place it is, but to also make it even better.

Is Boerne perfect? No. Is there work to be done? Yes. But as a consensus from someone who stepped into a role to see Boerne remain a community where we love and care for one another, where we show the stranger hospitality and grace, where we welcome new brothers and sisters in our community, where we agree to disagree and have civil conversations and respect for each other, I can only say, well done Boerne, well done.

As the new year comes, work will begin on multiple infrastructure projects as we continue our work to make Boerne even better.

I know there will be struggles and frustrations, but there will also be excitement as parks are being built, and we improve our sidewalks and streets.

I would encourage us all to look into this coming of the new year as an opportunity to see how each of us can help to make our community better, seek opportunities to serve and volunteer, to step into the role of servant and give back.

I promise, you won’t be disappointed.

Lastly, I just want to say thank you. Thank you, my brothers and sisters, for placing your trust in me to lead Boerne into the future.

I have been very forthright with you since the beginning -- I am not a politician, I don’t have all the answers, and I have a lot to learn. But I want what is best for our community and will work for that and I will work for you.

It is my sincere hope and prayer that I have done a good job of that. I am excited that God has placed me on this path, and I look forward to the coming year and what it holds for all of us.

While the future is a mystery, today is the present and may we all enjoy the gift of each day and the great place we call home. As the holiday period winds down, hopefully we were able to experience a tremendous amount of joy as well.

I pray that we all are blessed in some way, somehow with this new year of hope and possibility. I also pray that each of us may be a blessing to someone else.

May the gift of the light of the world shine in each of us and ever more brightly in this new year. Together we are better, together we are Boerne. Blessings to all and may others experience blessings through each of us.
