• Introduction to Expressionism -- a mini workshop with Julie Majek: Saturday, January 20, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Majek says her artistic journey

began in elementary school when she decided she was going to be an artist.

Over the years she studied and explored many art styles and mediums. By the time she received a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Trinity University, h

er work had evolved into large expressionistic works with ethereal fluid qualities.

After graduating she collabora

ted with interior designers in the San Antonio area and was commissioned to create works of art for specific spaces and clients.

In this class you will first be provided a brief history of notable abstract expressionist painters such as, Mark Rothko, William deKoonig, Helen Frankenthaler, and Jackson “the Dripper” Pollock, whose paintings were born out of his subconscious.

Majek will demonstrate her style of painting focusing on color theory and composition, and after a warmup activity, students will plan and create an abstract painting on canvas.

• Introduction to Basic Leather Stamping -- a mini workshop with Lew Pewterbaugh: Saturday, January 13, 1-4 p.m.

Pewterbaugh has been doing leather work for more than 40 years, and made everything from key rings to saddles, and is presently making mule equipment and restoring antique saddles.

In this class, participants will learn basket stamping, and finish with a border stamp. Learn how to prep the leather, how to plan a pattern, how to properly use stamps and mallet, and how to finish the border edge.

This is all in preparation for a craft pro

ject such as a wallet, checkbook cover, or a phone case.

Mini workshops are held in The Classroom at the AgriCultural Museum andArts Center, 102 City Park Road, Boerne. Class sizes are limited; supplies included. Cost is $85. Register today at: www. hccarts.org, or send inquiries to: [email protected].
